"...If it's possible to fall in love with a childcare center, then with BSSCC, it was love at first sight. I used to think that my young children mostly needed to be able to play, socialize, and explore in their early learning environments. I thought if they were happy, safe, cared for, and engaged, that was enough. BSSCC offers all of that and goes above and beyond. I never imagined my daughter might spend her days at preschool sledding, studying the birds in the yard and making feeders for them, collecting different types of leaves and seeds and matching them in books to their proper tree, or walking to the T to ride to a dance show at the hight school. I didn't realize that she'd get to meet young men and women from local colleges studying early childhood education as they volunteered in her classroom. I didn't know they'd make friendship soup, muffins, and thunder cake. Over the two years our daughter was in the preschool room, we watched the loft area transform from a pirate ship to a cafe to a house to Oz, and an ice skating rink among other things. We watched our daughter dance with "Dance Teacher Tom" in the indoor gym -- a perfect alternate, open play space when the weather is bad....
BSSCC has given our children a place to grow, learn, discover, imagine, and play. They prepared our daughter so well for kindergarten that some of what she learned there was redundant. They spent particular time helping her navigate relationships and how to get along with others. To this day, we use borrowed phrases and words from her preschool teachers when she has conflicts with friends. But more than anything, our children had and have so much fun there that they often don't want to leave!...
This is an exceptional child care center in its passionate, professional approach to early childhood education...."

"With two children attending BSSCC, we feel particularly connected to this amazing school. When our son Fletcher began day care, we were living in Somerville and chose a center that was near our house, hoping that it would help us form connections with local parents. While this day care was certainly acceptable, we never developed any of that hoped-for community, and felt always a little disappointed in the quality of the care.... The teachers at BSSCC are unrivaled in their energy and creativity and clearly love their work and our children. When our daughter was born, we knew immediately that when we needed day care for her, BSSCC would be our first choice. Having both our children together is a great boon for them and for us, as they are able to be together for all-school sing along on Friday and see each other on the playground almost daily. The convenience of having a center we love so close to our home and our job is one of the things that makes working at Brookline so special."

"My daughter has had the pleasure of attending each classroom at BSSCC. She joined the BSSCC school community as an infnat in the Infant Room, graduated to the Toddler Room and currently participates in the Preschool Rooom. My daughter loves going to school! The community at BSSCC is wonderful. The staff and teachers are engaged with the parents and children; they are kind, caring and focused on educating and developing the children. Throughout our experience at BSSCC, the teachers have always made time to greet me and my daughter each morning to welcome her, find out about her day/night before, and share the day's upcoming activities. The transition from home to school is handled with warmth and excitement for the day ahead. At the end of the day, the same communication is made. The teachers seek me out to share what my daughter did that day with her peers, what the class focused on and how her day went in general. Often I find notes in her cubby about kind things my daughter did during the day or little things she said; we read those notes at dinner time as a family and allow her to share about her day. My family is proud to be part of the BSSCC community."

"Early in my pregnancy, I started polling my colleagues about their daycare suggestions. All of the BSSCC parents I spoke to got a misty, tender look in their eyes as they spoke. One even told me that, 'The teachers at BSSCC loved my kid just a tiny bit less than I do.' That made my decision clear.
When I first got the call from a former colleague that my daughter had secured a spot at BSSCC, I hung up the phone and cried -- first from relief and then because I realized I would be handing her off to someone else, someone who would be changing her diapers and wiping her nose. Little did I know that the teachers I would later hand her off to would become not just her amazing, loving, creative teachers, but the best resource for parenting tips and techniques we could have ever asked for. Now the tears I cried thinking about someone else taking care of her have turned into the tears of appreciation I cry at each one of her teacher conferences.
BSSCC is so special because it is a place of real community. The teachers don't just work there; they invest their lives in the place -- some staying over twenty years in a field famous for turnover. And because the parents share in the operating of the place, you have the opportunity to get to know your colleagues on a different level while you paint shelves, work a craft table, or just see them with their children at pick up and drop off.
I count BSSCC among my family's best assets and feel so lucky to be there."

"I just had my daughter's parent teacher conference today and her seasoned teacher kept talking about how well prepared she was for kindergarten. She talked about what a good listener she is and what a good friend she is to everyone. The teacher asked what kind of literacy she had had in preschool. In particular she was impressed with my daughter's written stories.
All of these skills were cultivated in the classrooms at BSSCC. The story telling work that the preschool teachers did for and with the students, and the time my daughter spent developing stories through play in the classroom and on the playground were an excellent foundation for the work her kindergarten teacher wants her to do. Please pass on this compliment to her teachers and add it to your pile of evidence for how well BSSCC's play-based curriculum will prepare a child for kindergarten.
We miss having the BSSCC community in our daily lives...."
